Leo Tardin is the premiere winner
of the Montreux Jazz Festival International
Piano Solo Competition, and under the moniker Grand Pianoramax,
he has conceived a piano and drums duo that mixes improvisational
jazz with modern day electronic elements to create a unique
nu-jazz experience. Leo recorded the album in New York with
drum sensation Jojo Mayer. Also appearing
on two tracks is drummer Ferenc Nemeth (2002 Monk Institute).
"Fresh new music from a fresh new artist...we will continue
to hear great things from Grand Pianoramax" – Roy Ayers
"Leo Tardin, alias Grand Pianoramax , demonstrates together with drummers Jojo Mayer and Ferenc Nemeth how to get a maximal sound with a minimalist set-up.
The result is a blend of fusion and improvised jazz of appropriate modern influences. (...) Inspired and inspiring music!" - De:bug (Germany)
"Grand Pianoramax, while decidedly jazz-based, finds Swiss native Leo Tardin culling sounds from the genre of electronic and classical. (...) "Freestyle Figures" is intensely kinetic, while "Tranquille" gives new meaning to the phrase «chill out»." -Billboard (USA)
"Leo Tardin's keyboards sweep generously across skittish drums and ambient noise in this charming snapshot of contemporary jazz.
His freedom collaborations with drummers is confident, carefree, delicate and elegant." - XLR8R (USA)
"A very well developed project in an hybrid genre that has yet been largely explored. (...) Leo Tardin is a Swiss musician who,
like his friend Grégoire Maret, is creating a buzz in New York were he spends half of his time. This reputation is well deserved." - Vibrations (Switzerland)
"An album of great grooves and proper jazz licks with an improvisational feel from keysman Leo Tardin . Some of the tracks wouldn't
be too out of place on a Cookin' Soul Food album, with some quality playing from Leo, but also a willingness to experiment with the technology." - Undercover magazine (UK)
"The self-titled debut album from Leo Tardin (aka Grand Pianoramax ) is a unique experiment between improvisational jazz,
forward-thinking nu-jazz, classical composition and modern electronic elements. (...) Skillfully executed compositions and innovative future jazz fusion." - BPM (USA)
